Plans to transform a former grass machinery merchants are set to get the go-ahead.

A planning application was submitted by Eccleston Homes Limited to build 14 two-storey, four and five-bedroomed houses on the former Burrows machinery site, on Wigan Road, Clayton-le-Woods.

The plan will go in front of Chorley Council’s development control committee meeting on Tuesday with a recommendation it is approved.

As part of the plans the estate will be secured by electric gates.

Two existing bus stops on Wigan Road will be improved and a new footway will also be built.

Work is expected to start next year.

Kevin Marren, managing director of Eccleston Homes which has submited the application, said: “We are very excited about the plans, we have submitted a detailed planning application for 14 houses accessed via a private road off Wigan Road secured by electric gates.”

The plans have been welcomed by ward councillors in the area.

Coun Dave Rogerson, vice-chairman of Chorley Council’s development control committee, said: “The site closed around four to five years ago.

“It went through the hands of one developer and then another but nothing has ever happened.

“I’m glad something is happening to it, since Burrows left it has turned into a bit of an eyesore, so I welcome the action being taken.”

Coun Mick Muncaster added: “I’ve never heard of any objections to the site.

“It’s about time something happened.

“At the moment it’s a hole in the ground but the sooner something gets started the better.”
