Hundreds of people will join procession in tribute to motorbike rider

More than 500 vehicles are expected to accompany a promising young motorbike star on his final journey.

Malachi Mitchell-Thomas, from Adlington, near Chorley, died last Saturday after losing control of his Burrows Engineering Kawasaki during the third lap of the Supertwins race at North West 200 in Portrush, Northern Ireland.

He was just 20 years old.

A funeral for Malachi will be held on Tuesday, starting at 3pm at Charnock Richard Crematorium.

Hundreds of people are expected to join the procession as it makes it way to the service.

Lancashire Constabulary and North West Blood Bikes – Lancs & Lakes will provide a rolling escort and static marshals along the route to ensure consistent traffic flow.

Those wishing to join the procession are asked to meet at the car park at Rivington Barn by 1.30pm, where they will escorted to join behind the funeral cortege as it passes through Horwich.

The route will be: A673 Scholes Bank, Horwich; A673 Bolton Road, Horwich; A673 Bolton Road, Grimeford Village; Railway Road, Adlington; A6 Church Street, Adlington; A6 Westhoughton Road, Heath Charnock; A6 Bolton Road, Heath Charnock; B5252, Yarrow Bridge; B5252 Lower Burgh Road, Chorley; B5251, Chorley; Butterworth Brow, Chorley; Dob Brow, Charnock Richard; Church Lane, Charnock Richard; A49 Preston Road, Charnock Richard; and A49 Preston Road, Charnock Brow.

Due to the number of vehicles expected, there will be some traffic congestion along the route and people are advised to expect delays to their journey.
