Jenny shows off her talents at JF Interiors Design and Build in Chorley

Just as the 41-year-old was embarking on the continual growth of her business, JF Interiors Design and Build Ltd, a height chart hidden under wallpaper in one of the upstairs rooms was marked 60 years to the date of the sale.

Uncovering the sentimental marker seemed to be an approving nod to taking over the home and shop premises of Doris Mead, who ran a dress agency under her own name.

Jenny, of Euxton, says: “I have had my business since 1997, working out of the back of a van as I painted murals for showhomes. I made a business out of that and set up a shop in Lyons Lane, where I remained for 10 years and relocated elsewhere for a few years.

“But my latest move has been the best one yet, as I have obtained premises in Harrison Road in Chorley, a shop that was will known for many years as Doris Mead (Dress Agency) and unfortunately had laid empty for around 10 years.

“We took possession of the keys bizarrely on a date that was later discovered on a child height chart after stripping the wallpaper in the bathroom upstairs: November 14, 50 years ago. The height marked Doris’ daughter, aged 10 years and five months.”

The mother-of-one set about revamping the 1940s property using her skills as an interior designer. The finish result includes a showroom and a room upstairs providing other designers with a space and ideas for smaller projects.

She adds: “I like the fact I have done an old property up and brought it back into the community. The property had stood empty for 10 years and the task of renovating it has been 24/7 labour of love, sweat and some tears but it is worth it. The premises we have now is much bigger and better and now we have what we always wanted – a showroom.

“We have brought this property back to life and it is a place were we can help ours clients make their houses a home, and have the space to display and demonstrate what we can achieve.”

Jenny and her colleague Jo Rostron provide advice to customers on all aspects of interior design. They also sell lighting, flooring, soft furnishings, wallpaper and paint. They also offer a painting mixing service with Little Greene Paint Company.

Jenny, who graduated with a degree in book illustration at University of Central Lancashire, adds: “Each time we have moved, we have got bigger, With our new showroom, we are offering more services.

“We have now added flooring and lighting and we mix paint with the Little Greene Paint Company. There isn’t anywhere local that offers this, so we are pleased to have this partnership.

“We offer a decorating service, with my husband Jonni and my brother Alex Farrow. They do a fantastic job using schemes from my mood board.

“A lot of people come into a wallpaper shop and don’t know what they want. But I offer a personal service, with a full consultation and a mood board.

“Jo also has a lot of creative flair. She is a trained colour consultant and we give people ideas for colour matching based on pictures of their current schemes at home, to match sofas and furnishings. From that we can get a full scheme. I just love helping people to revamp their homes and help them put a real stamp on it.

“With more space we are also working with a number local individuals who can offer bespoke creations but do not have the facility to display their products.

“We have a box upstairs where people can rummage for fabrics and ideas for smaller projects. We get a lot of school children coming in to pick out of these boxes for their homework projects.”

To celebrate the launch the new shop, Jenny and Jo held an open day, raising £364 for Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
