Now in its fifth year, the awards recognise and celebrate the environmental achievement of individuals and groups from across the county, however big or small their environmental impact.

The contest attracted entries from a wide range of groups, companies, schools and individuals.

Among the first winners announced on the night were Blundell Road Community Allotments in the Best Recycling Project category, and Lancashire Carpet Reuse and Recycling who scooped the Green Retailer accolade.

Lee Petts, managing director of main sponsor Remsol, said: “Last year we sponsored one category.

“This year we have stepped up to the plate to sponsor the whole thing.

“We think it is important to celebrate the successes people are having, celebrate their achievements and more importantly inspire others.”

Gillian Parkinson, editor of the Evening Post, said: “We were delighted with the wide range and high quality of the entries from all corners of the community.

“The awards have really gone from strength to strength over the last few years and we would like to thank everyone who entered and all our sponsors for their support.”
