X Factor’s JonJo Kerr is set to return to Chorley to perform at the Christmas lights switch-on.
The infantry soldier, who made it to the live finals of the show, has been added to the line-up for the event on November 24.
He is one of two new acts to join Coronation Street’s Ryan Thomas, who plays Jason Grimshaw on the show, with eighties chart-toppers Black Lace, who are famous for singing Agadoo, also taking to the town’s centre stage.
Former Albany pupil JonJo said he’d been shocked to receive a call from the council asking him to sing at the switch-on.
He said: “I am really happy that the council got in touch as it will be an honour to switch-on my home town’s lights.
“Every year the Christmas lights switch-on is such a big occasion in Chorley and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
The Chorley dad’s family will be in the crowd to see him perform and he’s asking fans to help him choose which song to sing.
He added: “I can’t wait to come back to Chorley as I haven’t had much time to come home since the whole X Factor process started.
“It’ll be great to perform in front of the people who supported me and it’ll be nice to have my wife and sons watching.
“It’s really weird as this time last year I was just a normal lad from Chorley and now I’ve been asked to help switch the lights on - it’s crazy.”
The talented singer is set to perform two tracks on the night and he’ll also be sharing the stage with bands from the town, entertainers and the cast of Chorley Little Theatre’s Christmas pantomime.
There will also be a community parade that will depart from the courtyard at St George’s Church, on St George’s Street, at 6pm.
Leader of Chorley Council, Coun Peter Goldsworthy, said: “It’s fantastic news that JonJo will be coming back to Chorley to help switch-on the town’s lights as we know he had a lot of local support when he got through to the X Factor finals. He was amazing on the X Factor and is a brilliant singer so it will be great to see a big crowd in the town centre supporting him.
“The Christmas lights switch-on is set to be a fantastic family night and we’re also delighted to see Black Lace sing in the town.
“We’ve asked them to perform one of their classic hits so there will be something for everyone as we prepare to turn Chorley into a winter wonderland.”
The programme, which has been organised with the council in partnership with traders from the town, will start at 6pm and JonJo is expected to take to the stage at 7pm with Ryan Thomas to turn on the lights.
There will be free parking after 3pm on that day and then every day in the run up to Christmas.
JonJo’s short list of songs is: Handbags and Gladrags - Stereophonics, Valerie - Mark Ronson, Iris - Goo Goo Dolls, Thinking of Me - Olly Murs, Mr Bojangles - Booby Darin, Million Love Songs - Take That, Rewind - Paulo Nutini, Use Somebody - Kings of Leon, Broken Stones - Paul Weller or Your Amazing - Bruno Mars.
