M6 closed due to serious police incident
Traffic was brought to a standstill on the M6 in the Wigan area overnight due to a serious incident.
Both the northbound and southbound carriages were closed for some hours at junction 23.
The North West Motorway Police closed the northbound carriageway before opening the first lane to release trapped traffic.
The southbound carriageway was also closed.
The first and second southbound lanes were up and running again around five hours ago, before the southbound carriageway was fully reopened.
Junction 23 was reopened around three hours ago.
