A man has pulled a gun on five policemen in Ribbleton - but it failed to go off when he pulled the trigger.

The drama unfolded on the driveway of a bungalow in Ribbleton Avenue at 11am on Tuesday.

Police said the 29-year-old man had been involved in a domestic incident in Coppull earlier in the morning, before driving away and heading into Preston.

They claim there was no chase, but when officers caught up with his car, the man pulled into a driveway of a dormer bungalow in Ribbleton Avenue.

There he got out of the car and pulled out what is believed to be a handgun, and pulled the trigger at a group of five officers.

The gun did not discharge and nobody was injured.

The man was then arrested on suspicion of assault and possessing a firearm. He remains in custody.

Police have been seen searching the bunglow.
