Two men could owe their lives to a passerby after a caravan in front of their home turned into a fireball as they slept.
A woman driving past the inferno in Wigan Road, Euxton near Chorley stopped to raise the alarm, calling the emergency services and rousing the occupants by banging on the front door.
“The two men were very lucky this lady was passing at the time,” said acting watch manager Neil Mitchell at Chorley Fire Station.
“Things could have a been a lot worse. The fire had spread to the front of the house and fortunately the occupants managed to escape through the rear.”
The blaze broke out at around 2.30 on Tuesday morning. It is believed the caravan, parked in front of the house, was well alight when the unnamed driver spotted it and called 999.
She alerted the two men who were asleep and totally unaware of the emergency.
By the time fire crews from Chorley and Bamber Bridge arrived the caravan was well alight and flames had spread to the front of the house, damaging windows, a portion of roofing and guttering.
Neither of the occupants needed hospital treatment.
