Motorcyclist killed in city centre collision
Police are appealing for witnesses after a 28-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a car.
The rider died at the scene after being trapped under the vehicle in London Road, Preston around 7.15pm on Sunday.
Officers say the collision happened when the green Kawasaki motorcyle, which was travelling along London Road, collided with a black BMW car which was turning right out of Salmon Street.
A number of drivers stopped, while other passers-by, including an off-duty policeman, tried in vain to resuscitate the biker.
Eyewitness Peter Charles, from Clayton-le-Woods, told the website BlogPreston: “Having to push a car off someone and seeing them take their last breath is the most upsetting thing I’ve ever seen.
“Thoughts go out to his family and friends.”
The road was closed in both directions from Queen Street to Frenchwood Avenue.
A police spokesman said: “We are appealing for information after a motorcyclist died following a collision in Preston.
“At around 7.15pm a Kawasaki motorcycle was travelling along London Road when it was involved in a collision with a BMW 520 that was turning right from Salmon Street.
“The motorcyclist, a 28 year old man, was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
“The road was closed for four hours to facilitate an investigation.”
PS Claire Pearson of the Road Policing Unit added: “A man has sadly lost his life as a result of this collision and an investigation is underway to establish exactly how it came to occur.
“We have already spoken to a number of witnesses at the scene, but the collision took place on a busy road and I would urge anyone else who saw what happened and has not yet spoken to us to get in touch.”
