'My winning song is ready' says Kevin ahead of The Voice final
Leyland's own singing star Kevin Simm says he's had a 'whirlwind week' as he prepares for tomorrow's final of BBC's The Voice.
It’s been a week of photoshoots, rehearsals, interviews and even his sister’s wedding for the 35-year-old former Liberty X singer after he was voted into the final last Saturday night.
And with his song for the final picked and a winning single recorded, Kevin says he’s feeling a mixture of emotion.
“To be honest I feel like the pressure is off a little bit,” he said. “Whatever happens it’ll be my last performance on the show and I just want to enjoy it. I’ve chosen the song myself although I’ve changed it once because I wasn’t feeling it. The winner’s song is an original and I’m really excited for the show.”
And no matter what happens, Kevin says he’s looking forward to putting his feet up.
“The first thing I’ll do after the final is have a beer and spend some time with my family,” the Whittle-le-Woods resident said. “I’ve not seen my boys much throughout all of this so I’m looking forward to being able to see them more.”
Kevin’s journey started when he wowed the celebrity judges in his audition, with all four turning their chairs to show they liked what they heard and since then he has been one of the favourites throughout.
And the dad of two says winning would be very different to his success with Liberty X and admits the support he’s received has been a huge confidence boost.
He said: “Without sounding cliché, it would mean everything to win. It’s not the same as when I was in the band because this is something I’ve done on my own terms. Just getting to the final was a huge compliment knowing people actually picked up the phone to vote for me. They’ve made the effort to see me through and I want to give everything in my performance and hopefully it leads to other things.”
The four finalists will battle it out in a live sing-off tomorrow for a chance to release their own winner’s single and to cheer on Kevin, tune into BBC One at 7pm.
