National Pet Month launches today, and now in its 27th year the initiative is urging animal lovers across the country to celebrate their pets.

The aims of National Pet Month are to promote responsible pet ownership, make people aware of the mutual benefits of living with pets, increase public awareness of the role of pet care specialists and raise awareness of the value of working and assistance companion animals

Members of the public are being encouraged to support the event at home, work or with friends by holding pet themed events to raise money for charities across the UK supporting creatures great and small.

National Pet Month is a registered charity itself, which brings together animal welfare charities, professional bodies, pet businesses, schools, youth groups and pet lovers, with the common goal of improving the welfare of pets.

If you have a pet at home, whether it’s dog, cat or tortoise, we would love to hear from you.

Don’t forget to share your pet pictures, including the name of the animal, with us on Facebook or Twitter.
