A rehabilitation centre for young people with life limiting conditions has launched a new physiotherapy service for children and adults.
The new facility at Rainbow House, based in Mawdesley, is aimed at helping people with mobility issues to gain independence and increase their activity.
Although Rainbow House is known for providing education and rehabilitation for children, it has created the physiotherapy suite for both adults and youngsters.
A spokesman for the new service said: “Physiotherapy is an evidence based, holistic approach to neurological rehabilitation with a focus on enabling and empowering the person to increase their activity.
“It can be of benefit to people with multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, a stroke, acquired brain Injury, post operative patients, people with mobility issues and wheelchair users.
“Patients discharged from the NHS needing help to maintain independence or increase their stamina, flexibility and muscle strength can benefit from
a range of treatments.
“It takes just three small steps to getting help for people with a range of mobility issues.
“Firstly potential service users contact the fully qualified professional physiotherapist and arrange a meeting to discuss whether physiotherapy would benefit them. Secondly a detailed one-to-one assessment is undertaken.
“If it is agreed that physiotherapy could be of help, in the third step the physiotherapist sets achievable goals, which are reviewed regularly, with the aim of the patient being able to reach full their potential.
“The initial consultation is on a one to one basis and then treatments take place in a small group where patients can meet others who are similar in ability and encourage each other to achieve their goals.”
The new service has already received endorsements from patients.
Linda Mason-Pryor said: “The physiotherapy provided by Emily Heys has assisted our son in gaining greater mobility. It’s wonderful to see the improvements being achieved from this service.”
The initial consultation costs £35 and group sessions are £25 per hour or £140 for a block of six sessions.
