But Blackpool Victoria Hospital radiographer Liz Millington was not expecting her pets to become overnight celebrities when she took this photo of them looking rather windswept.

She was with husband Gary and their cocker spaniels Bracken and Winnie at Bispham when the strong winds made the pooches suddenly appear to be smiling.

The couple took some snaps of the dogs and posted them on a spaniel Facebook page, wanting to share the funny pictures with other dog lovers.

But they were not prepared for what happened next.

Liz said: “We were contacted by all sorts of media companies and the dogs became celebrities being featured on North West Tonight, Radio 2, the front page of the Times newspaper and on the Daily Mail online,” Liz explained.

“They did look so funny, like something out of Wallace and Gromit or the Muppets. They both like the wind, but I have never seen it have this effect on them before.”

Bracken and her daughter Winnie have enjoyed their new celebrity status and all the extra doggie treats they have been given since becoming media stars, she added.
