Family will head for the Lakes in a vintage Morris for children's hospice

Richard Abraham is taking on the trip in memory of his daughter's friend Ellie Sumner who died "too soon",

Richard had planned to drive the vintage Morris 10/4 from Chorley to the Langdale Pikes in the Lake District on June 19 to raise money for the Astley Village Hospice.

He set a target of £500 but donations have rolled in taking the total to £1,400.

However, due to the Covid-19 crisis, the three-day tour of the National Park has had to be postponed until September.

Richard, who will also be accompanied by his 74-year-old mother, 20-year-old daughter and their two dogs, has rescheduled the trip for September and is looking to hit the £2,000 mark in donations before the event.

Richard says the trip will take in "an estimated 160 miles on country lanes and steep inclines in a car built before WW2 with no synchro mesh between 1st and 2nd gears, no indicators or power steering and a top speed of barely 40mph on a flat road (wish me luck)."

He adds: "I would like to use this opportunity to raise some money for Derian House children's hospice in Chorley, Lancashire.

"Also, I would like to do it in memory of my daughter's friend Ellie Sumner, a young lady who died too soon.

"She didn't have a connection with Derian House but I'm sure she would approve.
