NHS worker sings heartfelt tribute to remember lives lost in pandemic

Kayleigh Kennedy, from Chorley, took the courage and stepped into the recording booth to sing a heartfelt version of Donna Taggart's 'Jealous of the Angels' as a tribute to those who have lost a loved one to Covid.

The 32-year-old hospital worker, who has worked on the front line at Royal Preston Hospital for 17 years, said the past 12 months had been "the hardest year" of her life.

She chose to record the song, which reminded her of her late grandma and film a video thanking all NHS staff for their efforts during the pandemic.

Speaking to the Post, Kayleigh said: "I have seen so much throughout the pandemic and a lot has happened. I have seen staff members work through the toughest year and it made me want to do something to say thank you to them and remember those we have lost.

"It has been the hardest year of my life and the hardest in all the time I have worked for the NHS. We have seen groups of staff split up and redeployed but we have all worked together as a community and made it work.

"Now we can see brighter days ahead and we are in a much better position which gives us all hope for the future. Staff morale is on the high again and people are just happy to be in the job helping people who need it."

In a bid to continue raising those spirits, Kayleigh, who has worked in catering and as a healthcare assistant, covered the song that reminded her of her grandma.

Despite always wanting to sing and record a song professionally, the pandemic finally gave her the boost she needed to let her voice be heard on a song that reflects on the feelings of losing a loved one.

And with the help of producer Von Roman, she created a music video that pays thanks to the NHS heroes for their contributions during the Covid-19 crisis.

Kayleigh added: "I have always enjoyed singing and thought it would be nice to cover one of my favourite songs. It reminds people of those who have passed away and in the climate we are in, I thought it would be perfect.

"I am trying to get it shared as widely as possible to raise hope. I have had a brilliant reaction already and everyone is telling me how proud they are. I am quite overwhelmed with the response so far, I didn't expect it to turn out like this."
