PICTURES: Adlington Carnival's weekend offers fun and sun

The sun was shining on Adlington this weekend as people lined the streets in their droves for the annual jamboree.

The traditional parade on Saturday saw onlookers appreciate the eclectic array of talent on show as a range of floats and fancy dress entertained the crowds.

This year also saw the presence of a big screen showing England’s triumphant 2-0 quarter-final win against Sweden in the World Cup.

The samba and Take That tribute bands moved to accommodate the buzz around the national team.

Members of the public took to social media to commend the weekend fun.

Charlotte Taylor said: “It is absolutely amazing having that on our doorstep. Absolutely loved the parade, music, football – everything.”

The fair has been going for more than 45 years with a number of famous faces previously showing up.

The Carnival Queen for 2018/19 is 13-year-old Katie Jones, a student at Parklands High School in Chorley and leader at local girl guides Rainbows and Brownies.

The three day fair has been going for more than 45 years.
