Chorley Council pays tribute to Prince Philip's "extraordinary and indelible legacy"

Councillor Bradley said: “We are extremely saddened to learn of the passing of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

“On behalf of Chorley Council, I wish to convey our heartfelt gratitude for the Prince’s tremendous devotion to his public duties as well as our most sincere condolences to Her Majesty The Queen and her family.

“Our thoughts are with them at this sad time as we recognise that, alongside his long and unwavering service to our nation, Prince Philip was also a devoted husband and a proud and loving father, grandfather and, in recent years, great-grandfather.

“The Prince leaves behind an extraordinary and indelible legacy, not least his impact on the young people of our nation.

“I know that countless young people in Chorley, Lancashire and across the entire UK have been inspired by – and, in many cases, had their lives transformed due to – his Duke of Edinburgh awards scheme in which he played an active role.

“We also reflect upon his distinguished service in the Second World War as well as his steadfast support for Her Majesty The Queen as the longest-serving consort in history.

“Today, we join with the entire nation in mourning and paying our respects to a beloved and remarkable man.”
