County MPs' shock and horror as colleague is stabbed and shot

Lancashire's MPs have been expressing their shock and horror at the attack on their parliamentary colleague Jo Cox.

The Labour MP for Batley and Spen is in a critical condition after she was shot and stabbed after a surgery in her constituency.

Her Labour colleague Lindsay Hoyle, MP for Chorley, tweeted: “Jo Cox, her staff and her family are in the thoughts of all colleagues and all parties here at Westminster, very, very sad news.”

Ben Wallace, MP Wyre and Preston North, added: ”My thoughts and prayers are with Jo Cox MP this afternoon.”

Cat Smith, the Lancaster and Fleetwood MP, said: “Like so many others, I’m totally shocked by news about my colleague Jo Cox and praying she is ok.”

While Seema Kennedy, MP for South Ribble, said: “Praying for my wonderful colleague Jo Cox.”

A 52-year-old man has been arrested after the attack, West Yorkshire Police said.
