Praise for Lancashire's firefighting heroes as blazes devastate moorland

And as our fire fighters continue to battle the moorland fires, well-wishers from across the county have praised Lancashire's firefighting heroes.

Céire Edge said simply: "These firefighters are doing an amazing job," with Linda Helman adding, "firefighters and all others helping. Stay safe people. Please keep these people well fed and hydrated."

Kathleen Brennan added: "So sad, the fire fighters are amazing."

Diane Blakeley said: "Volunteers from Bolton Mountain Rescue Team are also supporting this. For many this was straight from their daytime job."

Brian Egerton was concerned that smoke from the fire had made the air quality in the area poor.

He said: "Second fire in days up there but this one is much worse, gets on your chest too. I live in the centre of Horwich and dropped my daughter off nearby and it was making me gag."

Janet Bajada Towers said: "Living in oz know exactly how it feels. Scary winds make it so much worse - it can change direction in a second. It can calm down then blow up again in another second. Stay safe all."

More than 80 firefighters are continuing to battle the fire at Winter Hill today and firefighters thanked members of the community for their support.

This is the second fire to affect the Rivington area. Firefighters were called out for the first time to the Sheep House Lane on Monday evening.

Nobody is believed to have been injured in any of the moorland fires.
