Families flocked to an annual duck race in Whittle-le-Woods as part of their Bank Holiday plans.

Hundreds of people turned up to the event on May 7, which officially began at 3pm at the Waterhouse Green, near the Roebuck pub.

There were two duck races in total, with the main winner scooping an impressive £500.

Coun Eric Bell, who represents Whittle-le-Woods, said: “The duck race is something that we have done for 15 years now.

“It has become quite popular, and it creates quite a lot of interest.

“You would think we were at the Grand National, the way we shout for the ducks.

“It’s a fun day.”

There was also plenty for the children to enjoy, including face painting, Morris dancers and a barbecue.
