Network Rail is to hold a series of information events in Chorley on work it is carrying out to electrify the railway between Manchester and Preston via Bolton.

Members of the public are invited to the drop-in sessions at:

Tuesday, March 11, between 4pm and 8pm at St Joseph’s Parish Centre, Harpers Lane, Chorley.

Wednesday, March 12, between 4pm and 8pm at Adlington Community Centre, 32 Belmont Road, Adlington.

As part of the work, a number of bridges will need to be reconstructed in order to provide sufficient clearance for the overhead line equipment.

Forthcoming works involve road closures at Harpers Lane, Chorley and Railway Road, Adlington, which begin in May.

Network Rail said: “Our work will create a cleaner, faster and more reliable railway for passengers with much needed additional capacity.

“Electrifying the railway is vital in supporting the North’s long-term, low-carbon economic growth, and better connecting people to jobs, services, friends, family, education and leisure.”
