Residents advised to close windows and doors as fire crews tackle warehouse blaze

The cause of a fire at a disused warehouse in Preston is under investigation after residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed and other people to avoid the area as fire crews tackled the incident.

Six crews from Preston, Fulwood, Blackpool, Penwortham and Bamber Bridge were called out at 11,36am on Saturday to the incident in Brookfield Street.

A statement from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service at 1pm said: "We have six fire engines at a fire involving a derelict building on Brookfield Street, Preston.

"Crews are using hose reels and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.

"If you can smell smoke, keep windows and doors shut. Please avoid the area."

By 3.30pm, the number of fire engines at the scene had been reduced to two. Firefighters continued to make the scene safe and damp down and an investigation into the cause was under way.
