TWO town centre streets have been closed off after a huge fire damaged three shops.

Six fire crews were called to Cleveland Street, Chorley, at 3.58am on Thursday, after reports the Amalfi Italian Restaurant was on fire.

Firefighters declared ‘Operation Merlin’ and an aerial ladder platform was used to tackle the blaze which is also said to have caused damage to the Cash Converters shop.

Nobody was reported to have been injured but crews remained at the scene throughout Thursday morning.

Police said it was a ‘very large fire’ and High Street remained closed along with surrounding streets.

A spokesman for the fire service said a cause has yet to be established but it was likely parts of the building would eventually be demolished.
