A Leyland resident has been targeted by scammers claiming to be offering PPI compensation, say police.
The person targeted did not fall for the scam in this instance, but officers in South Ribble have now issued a scam alert for residents in Lancashire.
According to officers, scammers call from the phone number 0207 193 0551 and tell unsuspecting residents that they have "won a PPI claim and quote a sum of between £2000-£4000."
A spokesman for South Ribble NPT said: "They will then tell you to call the above phone number and they will request payment upfront and ask for the serial numbers from the iTunes vouchers.
"They will then claim the voucher using the serial number and will advise you that a representative will deliver the sum in cash to your home address.
"Please be vigilant when receiving calls from phone numbers you do not recognise and be especially suspicious of anybody requesting payment by iTunes vouchers."
Anybody who receives suspicious calls of this nature should report them to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
