Selfless Charlie's gifts of kindness

And Charlie’s classmates from Brinscall St Johns CE Methodist Primary School were only to happy to help the cause, gifting vital funds to Rainbow House in Mawdesley, where pupil Millie Proudfoot attends for conductive education.

Selfless Charlie wanted all his fellow pupils to attend his birthday celebration but decided he didn’t need 30 presents. Instead he asked each of his friends to make a donation to Rainbow House, who help provide support for children with disabilties and their families.

Charlie and Millie shared a joint birthday party at Clayton Green Sports Centre and Millie too asked for donations in lieu of gifts.

Charlie visited Rainbow House last week to see Millie taking part in a conductive education session and the two youngsters presented the charity with £308.

Charlie’s proud dad, Mick Brennan, said: “Charlie thoroughly enjoyed his time at Rainbow House and is now planning his next fundraising mission.”

Millie was born by emergency caesarean and struggled with breathing difficulties.

When she was three-days-old her mum, Alison and dad Phil were told she had brain damage.

In her first year Millie attended numerous hospital appointments but the family were given no clear indication on what her future would hold.

When the time came for Alison to return to work, the choice of nursery was critical and it was then that the Proudfoot family discovered Rainbow House.

Millie started in the Legacy Nursey in 2009 and began conductive education inn 2010.

Since that time she has made fantastic progress both physically and in her personality.

Carole Cochrane, Chief Executive, Rainbow House, added: “We are very touched that Charlie asked for money to donate to us rather than birthday presents. It is a very kind and generous action.

“It was a delight to have him visit us – he even helped Millie in her conductive education session and their parents are rightly proud of them both.”
