An investigation has been launched after two pedestrians and a dog were hit by a van – injuring the dog so severely it had to be put down.

Keith Fowler’s Cavalier King Charles Spaniel – named Charlie – suffered severe injuries after the accident with a van in Chorley on Friday, March 23.

“I was taking the dog out for a walk,” said Keith, 32, who lives on Cotswold Road.

“A van pulled up on Gloucester Road. He backed into me and my dog. My dog had severe injuries.”

He said the van driver phoned the police, but Keith said he rushed Charlie to a vet and could not wait.

“The van stopped but I took the dog to the vet,” said Keith. “He phoned the police.”

A spokesman from Lancashire Constabulary said: “We are investigating after a Vauxhall van collided with two pedestrians and a dog. The dog sadly died later.”
