People are invited to pay special tribute to their loved ones whilst supporting St Catherine’s Hospice.

The charity’s annual Light up a Life campaign welcomes supporters to dedicate a light in memory of someone special to them, which will shine brightly in the hospice’s Lostock Hall grounds throughout the festive season and into the New Year.

Names of those remembered are also entered into a Book of Remembrance, which is available to view in the hospice’s chapel all year round.

The lights will be switched on during a moving ceremony on November 29, which will include music from Charnock Richard brass band.

The evening will run from 5.30pm when the Book of Remembrance will be available to view, with the lights being unveiled at 6.30pm.

The Mill café will be open late for those wanting to share a meal or drink before or after the service.

Lorraine Charlesworth, director of community and income, said: “Christmas is an important time of year, and at St Catherine’s we understand that whilst for many it’s a wonderful opportunity to enjoy getting together with family and friends for a host of fun occasions, it can also be a difficult period for those who have lost loved ones.

“Our Light up a Life service is a very meaningful occasion for thousands of our supporters, who come together to reflect and celebrate special lives during this poignant time of year.

“All funds raised through dedications are used to support the specialised care the hospice provides for people with life-shortening illnesses, and tributes are welcome in memory of anyone, not only those who have experienced the care of St Catherine’s.”

Dedications are being taken now, and the lights will shine brightly until the Twelfth Night on January 5.
