Supermarket plans reach next stage
After four years, the vision for a 30,065 sq ft store on the former Government buildings site in Cop Lane has moved closer. Residents can now view the planning documents and make comments which will be fed through to South Ribble Council’s planning committee for consideration.
Tesco spokesman Mark Thomas said: “We welcome the application going online for residents to view. We’re really grateful for all the comments and views that we’ve received to reach this point.

Tesco believes a supermarket at the site would improve footfall in the local business area, but objectors say it will take trade away from local shops and will cause traffic problems.
A part of the proposals, there would be a new access formed off Liverpool Road, with service access off Cop Lane. There would also be 239 free car parking spaces, a cash machine, café and a petrol station.
