‘Just say no to Eccles cakes, you’re in Chorley’, are the words emblazoned across a poster which can now be found in a gift shop in town.
Owner of independent shop Anise in Chapel Street, Colette Hart, also stocks cards with the slogan on them. It highlights the good-natured competition between the two northern towns.
Colette had the idea when she saw that artist Eric Jackson had made artwork which said ‘Just say no to Chorley cakes, you’re in Eccles’. So she contacted Eric and asked him to swap the words around and voila!
“We just really like the artwork,” Colette said.
The items have already proven popular with shoppers. Spotting them, Ruth Phillips of Woodchats cafe said: “These are brilliant - I’ll be down for some.”
As well as the posters and cards she also hopes to order mugs sporting the phrase. She will add it to her growing collection of merchandise which equates Chorley with the most popular cities around the world. They say: ‘London, New York, Paris, Chorley’.
