Congestion returns to M6

Rush hour drivers in Lancashire were tonight experiencing congestion and delays owing to ongoing roadworks and at least one accident.

The M6 northbound from the Tickled Trout junction near Preston is still reduced by one lane following a diesel spillage at the weekend.

The build-up of traffic and the loss of a lane was causing congestion in and around the Preston and Broughton areas.

One lane of the slip road at junction 31a is also still closed, magnifying the problems.

Meanwhile, an accident caused delays for a time on the southbound M6 between junction 29 near Bamber Bridge and junction 28 at Leyland.

And in Chorley, an accident on Harpers Lane led to severe delays and disruption.

It is believed that an eight-year-old boy was injured falling off his bike and traffic was stopped while paramedics treated him.
