Fire crews spent about three hours battling a fire at a business in Walton-le-Dale last night.

The blaze had caught hold in the basement of the building in Church Terrace on Saturday, May 12 at about 8.30pm.

A spokesman from Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: "Four fire crews from Preston, Bamber Bridge, Penwortham and Blackburn were called to a building fire on Blackburn Road, Walton-le-Dale.

"The fire was located in the basement of the property.

"Firefighters used six breathing apparatus and two hose reels to extinguish the fire and were in attendance approximately thre hours."

The spokesman confirmed that the cause of the fire was still being investigated.

He added: "There was quite a lot of smoke. We had to make sure that the fire didn't spread to any of the other properties."
