Air ambulance called to m-way smash

An air ambulance was called to a smash between two cars on the M6 north of Preston tonight.

Emergency services said the collision, in the centre lane of the southbound carriageway, had partially blocked the road, causing long tailbacks.

The smash happened around 5.30pm on the stretch between junction 33 for Lancaster/Garstang and the M55 interchange at Broughton.

Witnesses near the scene said the northbound carriageway was also affected as police stopped traffic to allow the air ambulance to land on the road.

There are no details about casualties at this stage.
