Motorcyclist has died after crash on A6

A man has died after a crash near Rivington this morning.

Early this morning a a white Ford Focus collided with a blue Suzuki motorbike on the A6 Blackrod Bypass, near Rivington.

Sadly, the motorcyclist, a man believed to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford Focus, a man aged 32, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody for questioning. The road was closed in both directions while officers examined the scene but reopened around 1.25pm today. Constable Paul Shore from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a man has sadly lost his life. “Our investigations are still at an early stage and we are committed to building a picture of what happened so we can give the victim’s family the answers they need. “This collision occurred during rush hour on a busy main road, so we are confident there are witnesses who can assist our investigation. “If you were in the area and saw what happened, or have dashcam footage that might be of use to us, please get in touch.” Anyone with information or dashcam footage should contact GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01618564745 quoting reference number 532 of 20/07/18 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
