Pupils from St Mary's Catholic High School were sent home due to a gas leak.

Mr Phil Thompson, Headteacher at St Mary's Catholic High School in Royal Ave, has confirmed pupils were sent home after a gas leak was found at around 12.30pm today (November 10)

The leak is reportedly in one of the science labs and engineers are on site dealing with the issue.

In a message to parents, the school said: "Arrangements have been made for the Euxton bus to collect those pupils from school.

"Other pupils may remain safely on site until suitable alternative arrangements have been made regarding transportation home."

The school say it expects to fully reopen tomorrow (November 11).
