Members of the Chorley United Reformed Church are in search of one donkey to take the leading role in their Palm Sunday procession for the Easter celebrations.

So far the Rev Martin Whiffin says they are struggling to fill the vacancy after very little response to their appeal.

Each year the church, in Hollinshead Street, Chorley lead a very successful service, with lots of families taking part.

Rev Martin Whiffen said :”It seems donkeys may not be as popular as they once were.

“Our Café Church will be celebrating Palm Sunday on April 9 recalling the time when Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey.

“Our 9.30am Café Church is very successful with loads of children and families and we really wanted them to be able to share in the whole Palm Sunday experience.

“A Palm Sunday procession seemed the obvious way to do that but for that you really need a donkey.

“We’ve made a number of enquiries but have drawn a blank - we would love to hear from anyone who can help, it may just stop me making an ass of myself!”.

If any reader has donkey they could lend the church, please contact Rev Martin Whiffen on 01257 273222 or email [email protected]
