Weather update: More rain expected

A spell of persistent rain, heavy at times, is expect to affect parts of Scotland, the North West of England and Wales from Monday late afternoon or early evening onwards into Monday night.

A Met Office spokesman said: "While this rain will neither be as heavy nor as prolonged as recent rain, please be aware that in view of the saturated nature of the ground and high river levels further localised flooding and disruption to transport is possible."

A cold front will start to move eastwards across the British Isles during Monday, finally clearing eastern and southeastern England on Tuesday. This front will bring with it several hours' worth of rain, heavy at times, leading to rainfall totals of 20-30 mm quite widely over higher ground and locally close to 50 mm. Ahead of this cold front a shorter period with outbreaks of rain is expected early on Monday.

"It is important to note that Monday's rain will neither be as heavy nor as prolonged as recent rain," added the spokesman.

Tomorrow's Met Office forecast gives rain in the afternoon and rain is expected for much of the day on Wednesday, Thursday and large parts of Friday.
