Tony Harrison the leader of the Freemasons in West Lancashire presented two new BMW R1200RT-P motorbikes to North West Blood Bikes.
The group had raised more than £40,000 for the liveried bikes, which volunteers will use for calls that involve Motorway, long distances, during rush hours and calls moving urgent blood samples and other lifesaving items.
Tony said: “I am delighted to be able to present these motorbikes on behalf of the Freemasons in West Lancashire to North West Blood Bikes as they will help them in the vital role they play in supporting the NHS in their work.”
Simon Hanson, NWBB fleet manager, said: “Since my appointment I have been working with Honda, BMW and multiple charities and local businesses to replace the fleet of 12 liveried motorbikes, as they had mostly done over 80,000 miles and in some cases were over eight years old.
“This very generous donation by the Freemasons in West Lancashire completes my renewal plan and they along with the other new motorbikes will greatly reduce the number of breakdowns we have been having with our old fleet. It will also increase our ability to support the NHS out of normal hours in the week and 24/7 at weekends.”
Simon then presented the Freemasons with a certificate of thanks for the donation of the two motorbikes.
Paul Brooks, NWBB chairman, said: “I am really grateful for the support we receive from all our sponsors especially from the Freemasons as they have not only donated these two wonderful motorbikes, many of their members support us by giving their time working as NWBB riders.”
North West Blood Bikes has five bases in the North West: North (Lancaster Kendal and Barrow), Central (Preston and Chorley), West (Ormskirk and Southport), Flyde (Blackpool and Flyde) and East (Blackburn and Burnley).
Two liveried motorbikes are located in each base with three in the North.
