The hottest day in Lancashire since 2006 came to an abrupt end last night as storms took hold in much of the county.

Many of our readers grabbed their mobile phones to capture the stunning light show from all over the region, including; Burnley, Blackpool, Cleveleys, Thornton, Chorley and Leyland.

While the weather is expected to settle over today and tomorrow, the Met office has warned more storms could be on their way.

“On Friday evening another hot and increasingly humid airmass is expected to spread into the south from the Continent.

“This airmass looks conducive to the development of isolated thunderstorms during the evening across England and Wales which could become more frequent later in the night as they spread northwards towards Scotland.”
