Five-star Derham bowls Garstang closer to Northern League title

The Riversiders may have been denied an outright win at Kendal but the 10 points they picked up keeps them well ahead of their nearest challengers Fulwood & Broughton.

A half-century from Mark Walling and an unbeaten 30 from Gilbert enabled them to close on 174-8. Kuldeep Singh picked up 3-36.

In reply, the hosts fell 29 runs short of victory with just one wicket remaining. Oliver Tyson hit 47 but Kendal were kept in check by Joel Anthony Derham who took 5-55.

Second-placed Fulwood & Broughton batted well to chase down Netherfield’s 218-7. A superb 98 from Matthew Smith and 45 from Sonal Dinusha with Louis Backhouse taking 5-60.

Earlier, Josh Dixon (89) and Jack Edgar (60) had impressed with the bat for Netherfield. Dinusha took 4-63

A virtuoso bowling display saw Chorley dispatch strugglers Lancaster at Lune Road.

The hosts were skittled for a paltry 47, chasing 160 for victory. Edwin Moulton and Ian Oakes were Lancaster’s worst nightmare as they combined to take all but one of the home side’s wickets.

Moulton – who has been in outstanding form all season – returned figures of 5-14 with Oakes taking four wickets and conceding only six runs.

Sam Steeple claimed the other wicket to fall. Only Eddie Steinson (10) managed to reach double figures in a sorry card for the home side.

Earlier, Will Moulton and professional Roshen Silva had been the mainstays of Chorley’s total of 159-5. The former hit nine boundaries in his knock of 53 while the latter hit six fours in an unbeaten knock of 58.

A quick-fire unbeaten 22 from Edwin Moulton lower down the order added impetus. Laurie Atkinson took 3-31 and Liam Moffat finished with 2-46.

Leyland produced an abject performance at St Annes as they were crushed by nine wickets.

The visitors could only muster 115 all out after being asked to bat first. Opening batsman Jacob Wright hit 30 but the rest of the top order failed to reach double figures. At 74-7, Leyland looked in grave danger of failing to get past 100 but scores of 21 and 22 from Iain Critchley and Ben Weaver nudged the score past three figures.

Harry Birkman, Lukman Vahaluwala, Tom Higson and Thomas Bradley all took two wickets each.

In reply, the hosts cruised to victory off 15 overs. Yohan De Silva struck 59 not out off 49 balls, including 10 fours and one six.

He was ably assisted by Vahaluwala, who finished unbeaten on 39 with seven fours.

Longridge moved back into the top six with victory on Saturday.

They were 51-run winners when the division’s bottom club, Vernon Carus, visited Newsham.

Having been asked to bat first by their visitors, Longridge were all out for 190 off the penultimate ball of their 50 overs as skipper Luke Platt led the way with 56. Jacob Holland and Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage took three wickets apiece.

Vernon Carus were all out for 139 in reply with three wickets each for Caleb Bradford, Matt Greenall and Jake Durnell. Mudiyanselage scored 31.

In the final match of the weekend, Blackpool crushed Penrith by 75 runs.

Eccleston maintained their push for promotion with a hard-fought win over Penwortham at Middleforth Green in the Moore and Smalley Palace Shield Premier Division.
