Charnock took a step closer to retaining the West Lancashire League title with this 3-0 victory at Lightfoot Green Lane against Fulwood Amateurs.

There have been many titanic battles between these two sides over the years and this was no different.

Charnock started striongly and took the lead after 12 minutes when John Sanderson’s shot was diverted into the goal from close range by Andy Roberts.

It remained at 1-0 until the 66th minute when pressure by Carl Grimshaw forced one of the defenders to deflect the ball into his own net.

Andy Westwell’s side made it 3-0 on 70 minutes when Sam Nightingale’s free-kick found Liam Hayton rise above the defence to score another goal.

Boss Westwell then took the opportunity to use his substitutes and Grimshaw, Roberts and Ross Bain were all withdrawn saving them for the top-of-the-table clash against Longridge Town scheduled to be played on the following Monday.

Fulwood continued to look to pull a goal back but Charnock appeared satisfied with their lead and concentrated on keeping a clean sheet which they successfully achieved.
