The Magpies will not play football again this season after the clubs in the National League voted in favour of not fulfilling their remaining fixtures due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

How the season will be concluded in terms of promotion and relegation is yet to be confirmed, but the clubs have voted on the matter with the league’s board set to decide the way forward this week.

Until a final decision is made, Vermiglio is not able to make plans for next season as he is not sure whether the club will remain in the National League or will be relegated back to the NL North.

The Magpies are currently bottom of the table with what would have been eight games of the season left to play.

Vermiglio is hoping that the future will become a little clearer this week.

“At the moment the only factual thing we know is that we are not going to play again this season,” said Vermiglio, whose club have voted to have the season declared null and void.

“The player contracts are now all up and that’s a good thing in a way because they are now free to negotiate with other clubs and we able to negotate with them.

“But it also bring an uncertainty. If I negotiate with another player, what do I say to them?

“We are a part-time club who pay players over 38, 40 weeks of the season, I can’t really say to a player that we will start paying them in August when the season starts because we don’t know what is going to happen.

“We can’t commit to anybody. We don’t know what our wage bill is going to be next year.

“Am I going to be able to pay the same amount next season as I did the season just gone – probably not.

“We don’t know what league we are going to be in next season.

“There is no contact or negotiations with players really – it’s just very much a case of wait and see at the moment.

“I have not go anything concrete to speak to people about.”
