Chorley captain Andy Teague is happy to answer the critics

He has been named as one of the top 10 greatest NPL players from the league's first 50 years.

And now Chorley’s player of the year Andy Teague is preparing to keep proving the doubters wrong in another season at Victory Park.

The skipper, 32, was named alongside current England star Jamie Vardy and Antoni Sarcevic in the league’s half-century celebrations.

And he has just enjoyed a campaign where he was named the Magpies’ player of the season, leading Chorley to the play-off semi-finals, where they controversially lost to eventual winners Harrogate.

Now as the players prepare to return for pre-season training ahead of the new National League North season, the skipper says his individual gongs are all about the team around him, manager Matt Jansen and his assistant Jamie Vermiglio.

Teague said: “It is always good to get individual awards but without my team mates being a skipper here my job is made easy by the lads around me and the management team we have got. It makes my job a lot easier.

“I had people doubting me last season, but the gaffer believed in me, Vermo believed in me, the lads around me believed in me.

“I just thought this year, to play every league game after being written off, and get a couple of individual awards, I am proud.”

And former Macclesfield and Lancaster City player Teague was pleased with the NPL accolade: “I saw I was in the top 100 but to get in the starting XI is a nice little honour, it is nice to get that little honour.

“It helps me out and gives me more confidence.”
