Chorley fans might be seeing double next season after the Magpies forked out an undisclosed sum to secure the signature of Alex Newby's twin Elliot.
Elliot Newby became the club’s fifth summer signing this afternoon moving across from Chorley's National League North rivals AFC Telford United for an undisclosed sum.
The 22-year-old midfielder was Telford's player of the year for the 2017/18 season but has now opted to join his brother at Victory Park.
The ex-Bolton Wanderers youth player lives in Barrow and says it was his brother's recommendations and a conversation with Chorley boss Jamie Vermiglio that helped him make the hard decision to move closer to home.
He told chorleyfc.com: “It was very difficult for me to leave Telford as I was really enjoying my time there.
“But the travelling was difficult, and after talking to Vermo and listening to what was being planned at Chorley, I felt that, combined with the reduced travel, would help my game progress.
“Alex has told me how good a club Chorley is to play for, and it’ll be nice to be playing alongside him again too. It might be a bit weird at first, but I’m sure in time it will be really enjoyable.”
Telford have inserted a sell on clause to the deal and Vermiglio believes he will bring a goal threat from the middle of the park to his side.
He said: "We’re really excited to get this deal over the line
“There were a lot of clubs interested in Elliot after the excellent season he had at Telford.
“He’ll give us extra creativity and goal threat, and the flexibility to play a number of formations. He can play in a number of different positions and compliments the squad we’ve already got in place.”
