Chorley should relish clash against former Championship outfit Yeovil Town

The Magpies may currently be marooned at the bottom of the National League but that does not mean they cannot relish the prospect of taking on the Glovers at Huish Park.

It was not too long ago that Yeovil were just one step away from the Premier League, but since their single season in the Championship, they have suffered three relegations.

However, they are making a concerted effort to return to the Football League and are currently in third spot in the table.

Vermiglio admits his relegation-haunted men face a huge task but it is not one they should shy away from.

“It’s brilliant isn’t it?”said Vermiglio. “They were a Championship club four or five years ago.

“They have got a decent budget – they’re a club who are expected to be up there.

“They are third at the moment and are going for automatic promotion and have given themselves a good chance of doing that.

“It’s a game we should relish and enjoy. We are a part-time club – the lads will finish work tonight and we’ll meet at the motorway services.

“We will get down there for about 10pm. We are trying to things the right way and prepare properly.

“But we are up against Yeovil – ex-Championship, nice stadium – that’s what it’s all about for us.

“Whether we come through unscathed or not this season, the experiences and how we are going to learn from this year both collectively and individually is going to be great.

“But it does not mean that we can’t go there and beat them. We have shown in the past that we can compete against these clubs.

“We just need that little bit of luck, a few things to go our way – maybe a few goalline clearances and for us to go down the other end and nick one. It can be done.

“The lads are looking forward to it. It is another long journey but we go there with a lot of hope.”

Last weekend against FC Halifax Town at Victory Park, the Magpies were on the wrong end of a narrow 1-0 scoreline.

Vermiglio gave a debut to young Bolton star Connor Hall and he is hoping a few of the players on the casualty list will be able to return.

“Harry Cardwell is done – he’s gone back to Grimsby with his hamstring – and Kielen Adams, who we got on loan from Oldham, is still struggling with his ankle.

“Martin Smith is still struggling with his back and Marcus Carver serves the second of his two-match suspension for picking up 10 bookings.”

Elsewhere, AFC Fylde host Boreham Wood and Southport entertain Bradford PA in the NL North.
