Garry Flitcroft has hailed Chorley FC’s summer signings Sam Sheridan and Kieran Charnock.

The pair signed for the Magpies last week.

Midfielder Sheridan has joined from National League North winners Barrow while defender Charnock has signed from National League outfit Chester.

Coppull-born Charnock is primarily a centre-half and Sheridan is a central-midfielder.

Both players bring a wealth of experience to Victory Park with Charnock boasting England C caps and a number of football league appearances.

Speaking about the signings, Chorley boss Flitcroft said: “I am very excited about these two lads coming to the club.

“Kieran is a classy centre half and terrific leader on the pitch.

“He’s also a local lad so it will be good to see him play for his home town club.

“In Sam, we have finally found a ball-playing midfielder .

“It hasn’t been easy replacing both Tom Baker and Jamie Vermiglio, but now I think we’ve got somebody who can fit the bill.”

Last season, Charnock enjoyed a spell as Chester’s captain.

He has also featured for the likes of Morecambe, Accrington Stanley, Fleetwood Town and Torquay United.

Sheridan played a huge part in Barrow’s success last season.

Making more than 40 appearances for the Bluebirds last season, Sheridan scored goals on the final day of the season, which saw Barrow defeat Lowestoft to be crowned National North champions.

“I think the two signings show that we can attract quality players,” Flitcroft added.

“I’m delighted with both signings and I can’t wait for pre-season to start.”

The Magpies start their pre-season campaign at home to Preston North End.

The tie, which is on Tuesday, July 11, will be for the Jack Kirkland Memorial Trophy.

Chorley will then go on to play a Bolton Wanderers XI, Bamber Bridge, Barrow, Euxton Villa and a Blackburn Rovers XI.

Club officials are still working on the possibility of another pre-season fixture.

Ahead of the new season, the club is inviting all existing and potentially new stewards and match day volunteers to a pre-season meeting this Sunday.

It will be at the Victory Park social club at 10.30am.

The meeting is to help organise the match day stewards, as well as handing out the suitable equipment.
