Jansen hails spot-kick hero Ashton after historic cup win
Chorley boss Matt Jansen hailed spot-kick king Sam Ashton after the keeper's heroics helped the Magpies lift the LFA Challenge Trophy for the 17th time.
It was 2-2 at full-time and Ashton was the star of the show in the penalty shoot-out making two saves as the Magpies triumphed 3-1 on penalties to retain the cup.
And after winning his first piece of silverware as manager Jansen heaped praise on keeper Ashton.
He said: “It feels fantastic.
“I always fancied us with penalties, Sam is outstanding and he guesses the right way with nearly everyone and gets there for most of them.
“Historically he has done it time and time again, my hat goes off to him.
“It was a great match for the neutral, horrible as a manager but we’ve done it, we’ve got the silverware and it is really pleasing.
“Thankfully we got there in the end.”
