Jansen pleased skipper Teague has signed new contract

Magpies boss Matt Jansen revealed Teague has signed a new contract and says the 30-year-old centre-half is set to lead Chorley’s National League North promotion bid next term.

He said: “Teaguey has signed up for another year.

“It is great news for the club.

“Not just because of his playing abilities, but because of his impact off the field and in the dressing room.

“He is a great captain and he is a proper leader.

“I’m glad he has signed on.”

Jansen has brought in central defender and England C player Scott Leather from Altrincham, and he says he is also on the lookout for another centre-back.

The 38-year-old former Blackburn Rovers striker is currently sitting his UEFA A Licence at St George’s Park and he has also secured the signature of midfielder Josh O’Keefe from Altrincham.

Jansen says O’Keefe – who was a youth player at Rovers when Jansen was at Ewood Park – was highly praised by his former Rovers strike partner Chris Sutton.

Jansen and Sutton only played half a season together at Ewood after Jansen sealed a big money move from Crystal Palace in January 1999, with Sutton missing most of the 1998-99 relegation campaign due to injury.

And Jansen says 27-year-old former Walsall player O’Keefe will bring something different to Chorley’s midfield.

He said: “He was at Blackburn when I was there.

“Chris Sutton spoke very highly of him.

“He is six foot three and an attacking midfielder.

“We have got Dale Whitham and Jake Cottrell, but Josh brings something different.

“He will get into the box more.

“I have done a lot of early recruitment this summer so now I can be picky and choosey about who we bring in. We need one more centre half.”
