Sampson, 23, joined the club on-loan from National League side Macclesfield earlier this month, and has had an immediate impact.

And on Saturday, he scored a late equaliser before Josh O’Keefe netted an injury time winner in the Magpies’ dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Alfreton.

The result saw Chorley retain their grip on fourth spot in the National League North table, and Jansen praised Sampson for slotting seamlessly into his side, who return to action at Stockport Count on Saturday.

Jansen said: “Jack, four goals in six games, he has been colossal for us, he puts himself about, he has been fantastic and he is a great addition to the squad. With his work rate he is always going to score goals, it was great to get him on the scoresheet again.”

And of his side’s dramatic fightback, he added: “Unbelievable comeback. Second half it was one way traffic and it was just a matter of time - albeit very late! Credit to the boys it just shows the togetherness and belief that they have got.”

Paul Jarvis played a big part in both goals against Alfreton and Jansen praised his squad’s mentality as they prepare for the final 11 games: “Jarvo arguablywas man of the match, fantastic. It was a massive three points, everybody plays everyone at this stage in the season but you have to pick up points when you are not playing one of the top six teams.

“We have done it and we look forward to the next game at Stockport.

“But it is not about the 11, it is the squad and whenever they are asked to put in a shift they do that, and it is testament to how strong that squad is.

“Going into the last 11 league games, we have a strong unit in there, and I will be disappointed if we are not either in the play-offs or pushing for (automatic) promotion.”
