Duo face takeaway robbery allegation

Two men are to face a trial over allegations they robbed and damaged a Chinese takeaway in Leyland.

Steven Robert Wilkes, 36, of Leyland Lane, Leyland, is accused of robbing Xin Junhe, Icui Hong Zhang and Yuan Han Chen, and a further charge of damaging a window and mirror at the China Star takeaway.

His co-defendant Simon James Brumwell, 28, of Queensway, Leyland, is also accused of robbery and a further charge of damaging a window and mirror at the China Star takeaway.

The alleged incident happened on March 7.

Both men were remanded in custody following a brief hearing before Preston Magistrates’ Court.

The bench ruled the case was too serious to be dealt with and committed the case to Preston Crown Court, where both men are expected to appear on April 11.

Thieving warden faces asset hearing

A disgraced sheltered housing warden who stole nearly £45,000 from a vulnerable pensioner to help her sons pay off debts could have her assets seized at a court hearing.

Christine Massaro, of Lulworth Avenue, Ashton, Preston, will appear before Preston crown Court on June 7 for a proceeds of crime hearing.

She helped herself to a 73-year-old woman’s savings while working at the Bannister Brook sheltered accommodation complex in Leyland between 2013 and 2015.

The 63-year-old admitted two frauds and a charge of theft, and received a suspended 18-month jail sentence.

The court heard her victim had mild learning difficulties and health problems, and now could not trust anyone.

Liam Antony John Conneely, 20, of Watling Street Road, Ribbleton, Preston, admits damaging a taxi driver’s window and must pay £200 compensation, a £85 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Stephen Bree, 30, of Tag Lane, Ingol, Preston, admits failing to give driver information and must pay a £256 fine, a £30 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Gary James Daw, 49, of The Green, Ribbleton, Preston, was found guilty of driving without insurance and must pay a £660 fine, a £66 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Katrina Victoria Queen, 32, of Chaddock Street, Avenham, Preston, admits two counts of stealing booze and was given eight weeks in prison, suspended for a year, with a rehabilitation activity requirement.

Tracy Ann Goulding, 48, of Granville Road, Lancaster, was found guilty of failing to give driver information and must pay a £660 fine, a £66 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Iulian Grosu, 20, of Great Townley Street, Callon, Preston, was found guilty of using a handheld phone while driving and having no insurance or licence and must pay a £1,100 fine, a £66 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Shafiq Patel, 42, of Calverley Street, Ribbleton, Preston, admits sending a grossly offensive or indecent text message and must pay a £120 fine, an £85 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Wayne Collett, 41, of Aldingham Walk, Morecambe, admits being drunk and disorderly and must pay a £40 fine, a £30 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Gareth Evans, 31, of Alexandra Road, Lancaster, was found guilty of driving without insurance or a licence and must pay a £880 fine, a £66 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
