Magpies are plotting another FA Cup shock

Chorley boss Jamie Vermiglio insists a victory this weekend in the FA Cup would be up there as one of the biggest highlights of his career.

The Magpies travel to London Road this weekend for their eagerly awaited second-round tie against Peterborough United.

It is the first time in exactly three decades that Chorley have reached this stage of the competition – an achievement they have accomplished twice, firstly in 1986 and then four years later.

In the last round, Chorley enjoyed one of the most famous days in their history when they shocked 2013 winners Wigan Athletic 3-2 at the DW Stadium.

But if Vermiglio’s men can get the better of Darren Ferguson’s side this weekend then that would be an even bigger upset. Posh are riding high in second spot in League One and both teams know a place in the third round awaits – and a possible tie against Premier League opposition.

Vermiglio said: “In terms of my career, you can’t beat the promotions because they are a reflections of a season’s work and over the last few years, we have had a few of those.

“The win over Wigan is certainly the best FA Cup moment I have had in my career, certainly as a manager.

“Peterborough is going to be a stern test for us, make no mistake about it.

“On paper, it’s the toughest or one of the toughest tests of the round.”

The Magpies head to London Road off the back of a four-match unbeaten run – over the past week they have picked up a win and a draw away to Telford and Hereford respectively.

“We go there with confidence and with the belief that we have already caused an upset in the competition,” he said.
